iBook Cleaning

Julien, my iBook, needs a bath. Well, figuratively... it needs cleaning. I cleaned it myself several times but it's not enough. Is there a way to get it detailed... as they do with cars?
I know that you can send it back for a new keyboard but it costs about $150... I don't want to get that desperate since my keyboard still has another year of good use. And even if I send it for keyboard change it would probably cost me more since my warranty ran out.
I checked the other threads and suggested that I could take the keyboard apart and all that but I don't trust myself to dissect Julien.

Please help!!

Thank you.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.

First of all, it's pretty easy to remove the iBook's keyboard. It's considered a user-installable part. Instructions can be found in this Apple Knowledge Base article:

An electronics vacuum is a pretty good investment, but you can also use a can of compressed air (from an electronics store, office store, or Radio Shack) to blow the dust and debris out of the keyboard.

While you have the battery out, it's time to clean the rest of the iBook. I would suggest a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, available at grocery stores or WalMart, for cleaning the wrist rests, trackpad, display, and outer case. Dampen just one end of the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with plain water and squeeze out any excess water so that it does not drip — not even a single drop. Use the damp end to clean the surfaces of the iBook. Rinse if necessary, being careful to keep it barely damp, and never drip a drop.

Allow the iBook to dry several hours or overnight before reassembling and using it.
