I just bought a new iMac and want to install my data and applications from Time Machine.
How do I prevent the old apps from installing over the new ones (like putting the old iPhoto over the new one, or itunes, etc).
Thanks.

Q: How do I migrate to Mavericks without installing the old apps?
Time machine should be able to read all of the apps, definitely Apple apps, and tell if they are older versions of the same app or not. After update it will also check to see if some are not compatable.
