I have an iMac, but I do not use Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.1.

My App Store icon tells me I have an update for Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.1, which I either don't have or don't use.

Should I try to install this update?

If I do not install it, how can I make the "1" in the upper right of the icon go away?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

The update is for the client software which has been bundled with Mac OS X for years. Just install it so it will quit bugging you about the update.
