Mail Port 993 SSL does not work after installing Java 2013-005

Having installed the Java 2013-005 I have problems recieving mail with the port 993 ssl option. The mail app tries to recieve but the spinning beachball icon stays spinning.

If I cancel this option so that I recieve on port 143 then the mail runs as normal.

Which is counter intuitive since the Java upgrade 2013-005 is supposed to improve security not disable it!!!

System : OS X Lion 10.7.5 2.5 GHz i5

Has anyone else seen this problem?
