Hi, Link. This is amazing summary on Mac's safety. Can I post in my own blog, as a note for myself and for personal use(sometimes i get in arguments about difference between Mac OS and other windows/linux).

Links and credits will be in the post.

Hey man, do you have created a new user for testing?

I was have a similar problem with my Mac: slow shutdown with mouse cursor in gray screen for 1 minute or more!

    For problem solution:

1)- I've created a new fresh user, but NOT HAVE entered a iCloud user login.

2)- Shutdown is about 2 second!!!

Using my original login, the shutdown time is around 1 minute or more!!!

I've formatted my Mac and made a new fresh instalation.

I've created a new user, but NOT HAVE ENTERED MY APPLE USER LOGIN yet! I left it for later.

Voalaaa: around 2 ~ 3 seconds for shutdown!!!

I don't know if this solution will be work for you, but it never hurts to try!

    Good luck!!!

Hi, i logged out from iCloud with my principal user, since i do not use it-

    Then i removed these files:

    • /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    • /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    • /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.nat.plist
    • /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    • /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/CaptiveNetworkSupport/Settings.plist

Now the shutdown time is halved.

    Hi Rodrigo,

I'm a new MacBook pro (13 w/ Retina) user and your post works for me!

This still happening in the OS X ver. 10.9.5 (Yosemite is available already but I opted to update to 10.9.5 for the time being).

    Thank you!

    Wilbert Jonathan...
