Q: Where do I get enough information about TextEdit so that I can use it?

Try opening text edit, then clicking on help, type search in the help search window until a drop down menu appears then click on  "show all help topics", read through anything that seems interesting or helpful. It's how I've learned most of what I know about computing.  This has seemed to work for most apps. Good luck.
