Are my text messages backed up on my computer once I have backed up the phone through iTunes?

I need to restore my phone because there are niche in the system and I have backed up my phone on my computer through iTunes and iPhoto, but I want to make sure my text messages are backed up as well and I am not sure if they are. Is this possible and how do I make sure this is done?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

Yes, text message is part of the itunes backup.

To be absolutely sure get an iPhone backup extractor app for your Mac. There are some expensive ones around, but a number of free ones that are just as good. Google for "iPhone backup extractor", and skip any that cost more than $5.
