Images crop or black box in iMovies 9

Ok I have been having this issue for a while and now its really starting to agitate me. Whenever I upload a picture it crops it, and even even if I shrink the image it blows it up to the same size and ******* crops it! And worse is if I tell it to not crop suddenly the image has a black box, even though it has a transparency layer. What the **** is going on!? can some one tell me how to fix this? I keep seeing advice on change the resolution but that doesnt do anything cause like I said it keep resizing it automatically.
