"This apple ID has not purchased OS X Mavericks"

I recently bought a Macbook Pro from eBay, it came with Mavericks on it. I have no idea what the other person used it for, so I wanted to delete all the data.

I followed the instructions online to reset it, holding Option + Apple + R when restarting, then formatting the disk, and installing OS X Mavericks from there.

I run into this issue though, whenever I log in, it says "This Apple ID Has not purchased OS X Mavericks"

What can I do? I have the OS X Snow Leopard Disc the person mailed with the laptop and there is no disc drive. So now I'm stuck with a Macbook Pro that doesn't do anything...

What to do?

Yeah I was able to go pass the login screen before I formatted the drives. After the drives were formatted though and I tried to reinstall, it said I did not purchase OS X Mavericks and now it is an empty shell. I don't have any access to any other Macbooks or any Mac OS X computers to purchase it using the Apple App Store.

I tried iTunes on Windows but I'm not getting any OS X Mavericks results on there.

I've never heard of this one before, and I don't know how it tracks who downloaded. I'm wondering if it checks online or something. If that's the case, maybe bypassing your network would get you to boot. Do you know anyone else with a Mac that you trust enough to give your ID to? The only other thing I can think of is to but an external DVD to boot your SL disks from. They're cheap.

Right. So does the downloaded copy have the ID attached, or is the computer checking with the App Store to determine if that user downloaded a copy? I was asking because if it's the latter, it would seem to be resolved by him logging in from any machine under his ID and downloading a copy.

And a question... if he reinstalls from the recovery partition, how does that resolve the issue of him not having downloaded the copy?

But he won't be able to use it unless Internet Recovery is available, and with an older Mac it is not.

The correct method (only correct method) is to reinstall Snow Leopard from disk and then upgrade, but with no drive the OP will have to buy one.

It's a mess, the seller should have done this prior to sale but didn't, so now it's the OP's problem.
