Q: password locked

My daughter entered the incorrect passcode too many times.   She is no locked out of her Apple iPod Touch.   I have connected it to my computer, disconnected the cord, inserted the cord and pressed the bottom on the top and on the end at the same time.    The iTunes simple with an arrow and power cord connect come up, but nothing happens after that.   My computer shows the restore buttom - but I cannot restore the device.
