Cannot print custom sizes

I am using an iMac with OS 10.8.5. I have a Canon Pixma pro-100 printer. I can set up a custom size page (for ex. A6/4.5 x 6.25) in Pages or Illustrator but when I go to print it #1 with Illustrator I cannot even choose custom size, and #2 if I go to "Page Set-up" and create a custom size for it in "Manage Custom Sizes" it will pull the paper through without printing anything. I have spoke to Adobe and Canon, but no one can tell me what the problem is. I hope someone in here can??

Try saving as PDF from the Print dialog first, and then printing the PDF from Preview.

According to http://www.roaringapps.com/ Adobe Illustrator 5.0 has had a mixed bag of compatibility, whereas 5.1 has been solid. Are you running 5.1?

Yes, I'm on 5.1. I don't understand what the problem is-- the printer will print everything else but refuses to print

a custom size. I'm at a loss. I've had $75 printers that will do more than this one. Thanks for replying.

You should contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums since it's their product in conbination w/your printer that are causing problems. Or contact Canon Support.

At this point, I would return the printer, or put it to some place like http://www.gazelle.com/

I would also ask on the Adobe forums if anyone is familiar with a 10.9 compatible custom size page printer that is known to work with Illustrator. That would probably be your best bet.

It wasn't long ago when most printers were well over $500, and had some quality behind them. These under $100 printers typically are mass manufactured with little regard for quality. Getting one that works exactly as it should for your needs under warranty is key.

Sadly, we live in a mass-consumer driven society.

Thank you. It was $430!! So frustrating. Just spent at least an hour on the phone with Canon (again) and they suggested it was my computer or that I take the printer to a service shop. Oh well... I really appreciate your taking the time to help. If I ever solve it, I'll post an update!

Hi there. I just tested printing a custom size A6 (105mm x 148mm) to my Canon Pro-1 from Preview (don't have Illustrator or Pages on the Mac) and found that I need to set the paper as long-edge feed. If the paper was loaded as short-edge feed, when I printed an error would register and when I pressed the Resume button on the printer, the paper was ejected without printing. Might not be quite the same as what you are having but thought I'd mention it anyway.

I know this is 3 years too late for you, but if anyone else is having this issue, I was able to solve it by rotating my canvas/project 90 degrees so that the short end feeds first. Apparently, the paper must have a height of at least 5 inches, so I changed the paper height to 6.25 and width to 4.5 and it worked.
