Q: My Mac is relatively new and I am wondering if there is anti virus & fire wall installed from apple?

1. Mac OS X includes its own defences. Unless you're running Windows on the computer, you only need to keep it up to date and use common sense.

2. Open the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences to configure the bundled firewall.

Regarding anti-virus software, see my Mac Malware Guide. You'll find that, for most people, the built-in defenses are more than adequate.
