iPhone 4s says it is "unable to join" my home wifi network.

This device has been connected to this network for months with no problem. I've tried forgetting the network, resetting the network settings, turning on and off airplane mode, turning the phone off and nothing seems to work. My husbands iPhone is connected fine as well as other wireless devices in the home. Do I need to take it in to an Apple store? Help!

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.4

I've been having problems connecting to networks as well.

My smart-phone is not so smart and hasn't been since the last OS update. I suspect Apple isn't proactive in testing the new OS for the old phones.

I've tried to decipher where the problem is and it appears it occurs on networks where there is a "pop-up" asking you your log-in credentials (ie. airport hotspots, cable hotspots, hotels, etc.). The forums suggest resetting the network but that's not an option in these cases.

If the "solution" is upgrading the device (as it appears to be) I can only guarantee the next device won't be an Apple product.

The answer to your issue will revolve around the question " are you able to connect to wifi in other venues?"

If you are able to connect elsewhere but not at home that is indicative of an issue with your home router/wifi. IF however you are unable to connect via wi/fi elsewhere this will indeed indicate an issue with your device.

This question should be answer prior to moving forward.

Good luck!

Went to Starbucks, their wifi network was not recognized by my iPhone, but the SuperCuts next door was. At home now the new network is recognized, but when I enter the password it still says it is not able to join. I also set up a guest one with no password and tried to join it, but it still gives me the same message "unable to join network." I hope I don't have to get a new device.

IGNORE PREVIOUS POSTS AS THIS WILL STUFF UP YOUR PHONE SETTINGS.

Find out your routers IP address (usually a quick google search will help- brand name of your modems IP address) Mine is Belkin so 192.168.2.1 which will bring up your router settings. Wireless > Security > Security mode should be WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK) and here's the trick.. AUTHENTICATION needs to be WPA2-PSK! Save and then try connecting to WiFi 🙂

Type in router IP into address bar

Select Wireless tab

Select Security tab

Security Mode > WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK)

Authentication > WPA2-PSK

Apply Changes

Try connecting again.

Hope this helps!!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I tried every single thing listed above and nothing worked. I finally called Apple, got a waiver for the fee they charge to talk to support. Talked to support and they also had me try every single thing listed above, and nothing worked. So they had me take my phone to the Apple store and get a new one. Some sort of software glich. So, moral of the story is if you have a 4s and encounter this same problem, call Apple and get a case number to get a new device. The lady next to me at the Apple store had the same exact problem, but because she had not called them and discussed it and gotten a case number, she had to purchase a new device. Again, I really appreciate everyone's time to comment and help with this issue.
