Where can I get a good fortran compiler for the MacBook Pro?

I wouldn't recommend that gfortran compiler at sourceforge at this point (although I like that it's free): it has some premature bugs. Really nice is the Intel fortran compiler (ifort) for Mac OS X. Very fast. Haven't found any bugs so far. If you're not an educational person, it's pricey though, $600. Educational pricing is $100, and if you're a student you can get it for $27. Let me know if you need more information.

I would expect that GNU g77 would be installed alongside the other Xcode GNU GCC development tools, but it is not.

You'll have to get Fink or DarwinPorts and manually install it from there. It should work the same as Linux GNU g77 from there on out.

I haven't had much opportunity to use Fortran outside of some "Hello World" experiments in g77, though, so I might have missed an awesome free Fortran compiler.
