My wife requested I send a song to her sons I had downloaded. I went to the store, touched the song. The gift dialog box named the album and not the specific song. I am concerned that I will be downloaded the whole album as a gift to my sons rather than the specific song. Is this because I have already purchased the song?

If you are attempting to gift a song you already purchased, find the item that you are attempting to send. Once you have located this item select the down arrow next to download, play or the price. It should give you the option to gift this song.

Were you trying to do the gift from an iPad or iPhone? They do not allow gifting of single songs.
However, if you log in to your account on a PC or Mac, you will be able to gift a single song, as pictured below.
