hi, I have macbook pro, intel core 2 duo, 2.33 Ghz. why can't I update it to OS X Mavericks? everytime I click on install, it says "can not be installed on this computer". thanks!

my computer has snow leopord now. do I need to install mountain lion first to be able to upgrade to Mavericks?

I am trying to find out when i purchased it. it's 17" pro and 2007. maybe it was early of the year. so this means I have to buy a new computer to get the new system? Is there other way to upgrade my mace to be compatible?
Check the model number.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
If your model number is less, you'd need a new computer.
thanks! It says "Model Identifier: Mac book pro 2,1". so I guess it's too old? Is it possible to take it to a Geek store to get it ready for the update? It works great, I don't want to get a new one.
