MacBook Shipping Question....

If I order a MacBook on Thurdsay July 20th, what day should I expect the laptop to arrive? I live in New Jersey if that helps at all. Also what shipping service does Apple use?

Okay well I ordered my MacBook today. Around 10AM Pacfic Time. But it is CTO, I ordered the 1.83 model with 1GB RAM and 80GB hard drive. How long does it generally take for Apple to configure and ship a laptop out. Apple esitmates it will ship on the 27th which is a bummer. And estimates it to arrive on August 3rd. Should I expect to come sooner, because I have been waiting to order it for a long time, and I can't really wait any longer.

Based on my own experience, I would expect it to come later than Apple estimates.

I ordered a 1.83 GHz (stock config, nothing custom) on July 6, and Apple estimated 5-7 business days to ship. On the eighth day, they revised their estimate to 8-10 business days. Very late on the eighth day, it shipped from China via FedEx (I paid extra for express shipping). It was in Alaska yesterday and Tennessee today. I'm in Canada.

FedEx says it should be at my door Monday around dinner -- 13 business days after I placed the order.

Also a Fed$Ex note, The nano I got- shipped Tuesday and was here today!- w/ standard shippingthats about/less then 48hours!!!!- with luck my MB could be here as early as Wednesy, but maybe Thursday- that would make me soooo....ooooo (and on and on...) happy

yakonw maybe I should quit being so optimistic, so I don't get my hopes up

I ordered my macbook with extra memory on July 10th had an expected shipping in 1 - 3 days, was shipped on the 12th so 2 days and Fedex said 5 - 7 days I received it on the 14th. Fedex seems to be pretty good about getting things to you fast at least from my experience. Just make sure some one is around to sign for it when it is delivered, I ended up going to pick mine up since I missed them by 5 minutes when they tried to deliver it.

The one thing I don't like about Apple is I don't know exactly what they are doing with my computer. I would like to know how far along they are, maybe give me an updated shipping date. This is my first Mac so I am very excited for it to come. I wish someone could induce a coma and wake me up when it's here.

But 7-10 days? Is that business days or days including weekends? What is the average amount of time it takes Apple to finish configuring a computer? 3-5 Days also?

If Apple has the model you've ordered in a warehouse near your location, that's when it's available in 24 hours. If they don't have the model you've ordered in stock, then it will probably have to come from a distribution center or even the factory. If you custom-configure your new computer, it will be specifically built for you as it runs down the assembly line. These custom-configured computers go through an additional day of testing after being built. Since shipping from the factory may be affected by weather and customs in Alaska (where most shipments stop in the U.S. for the first time), it's extremely difficult for anyone at Apple, let alone anyone one of us users to give you an exact time/date to expect your new computer. Really, you should call Apple and ask them, this is a user-to-user forum and we have no way of tracking your specific order.

I think I have a solution to figuring out about what you MB is doing, unbuilt, being built and afterwards.

If you go to the change order page, and you MB is chnagable, then it hasn't started being made. This only works w/ CTO orders because you cannot change them once it has been/ has started being m,ade. I should note that I am not to sure if that actually works, as I don't want to screw up my order.
So if it apperas as a changeable item, my guess is that it hasn't been built yet. If it is not there, my guess it that production has started, or has finished.

I don't seem to have a change order page, unless I am looking in the wrong place. I went to Order Status and I can only cancel, or add items, and when I click on Add Items, it says I have to call or place a new order at the Apple store. So if someone can point me to the change order link I would appreciate it. Do they ship out your MacBook on the same day it has been tested for the day or do they do it the next day?
