Formula Translation Table into Foreign Languages

Hello!

Is there any page on this site showing up the translations of formulas in English, Español, French, German, Italian, etc…?

That would make things easier 🙂

Hints would be much appreciated

Not that I'm aware of, but you should be able to get a pdf copy of the iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide in English and in the other languages you need.

Google Translate (or Bing translate) can be useful in this regard as well.

You might also take a look at this collection of MS Excel function names in several languages. Those supported by Numbers should be essentially the same.

If you are a Numbers 3 user Help > Formula and Functions Help takes you to this page where there is a Change Language dropdown:

When you switch to another language there, the functions and explanations are "translated" to that language.

Numbers 2 users should be able to access the site by following the link above. Numbers 3 has some new functions, but most of the material applies to Numbers 2 as well.

After digging around in it a little more, the online Formula and Functions Help seems like a the most complete and handy resource for translation. It can be opened in multiple browser windows like this:

There is not just "translation" of the function names in 34 languages (vs 18 in Ivan Koenig's table), but also the descriptions and examples are provided in each of the languages.

New functions in Numbers 3 include (English ,French, Spanish):

INTERSECT.RANGES, INTERVALLES.INTERSECTION, INTERSEC.INTERVALOS

POLYNOMIAL, POLYNOME, POLINOMIAL

SERIESSUM, SOMMES.SERIE, SUMA.SERIES

UNION.RANGES, INTERVALLES.UNION, INTERVALOS.UNION

WEIBULL, WEIBULL, WEIBULL

Hey SG!

Thank you for your answer! This online-documentation is huge and very complete!

In my case, here, I received a formula via this forum in English. The project I’m working on was coded in German and I was looking for the german translation of a function called “LEN” in English.

So, the content on http://help.apple.com/functions/mac/4.0/?lang=en is really good explained and full of details in each language but there is properly not any mechanism able to help you find out the translation of “LEN” if you don’t know the specific expression in the foreign language.

In case you switch to another language, you have to read and compare a lot of function and therefor, it’s not really easy in terms of usability – as far as I see. Did I miss something?

Regards 🙂

If you more than one browser window open to the online help, as in my screenshot, it is not hard to find the corresponding functions, as in all the languages they are organized in the same groups - Date and time, Duration, Engineering, Financial, etc.

I don't know German but knowing that LEN is under Text functions (easily confirmed by a search) made it easy to find its equivalent in German:
