I have followed all the instructions on the troubleshooting but the airplay icon is still not showing

Do you have a Apple TV or Airport Express?

If you don't see the AirPlay icon in the Control Center:

1. Turn off router, Apple TV and iPad

2. Turn on router and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process

3. Turn on Apple TV and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process

4. Turn on iPad (wait 30 seconds) and test AirPlay

This happenend to me, but stupid, I did not check if all devices were connected with the WiFi. They were not, because my provider had a problem. As soon as the devices were back to WiFi my airplay was back on the screen again. If you checked all WiFis maybe try to reinstall the software on the iPad via iTunes.
