My son's old ipod 3rd generation had to be reset and now it won't let me set up my appleID. It says server problem.

I had to reset my son's old ipod and now when I have to click to log-in to my apple id or create a new one it says server problem. If I click to skip this step, it does load the basic factory settings but will not let me turn on wifi to add anything else to the ipod. Anyone know how to fix a server problem or is this old ipod pretty much history?

Try:

- Powering off and then back on your router.

- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server

- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

Public DNS — Google Developers

OpenDNS IP Addresses

- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem

- Try on another computer/network

- Wait if it is an Apple problem

I had to restore this ipod to factory settings. When you first set the ipod up, it asks you to enable locations which I did. Then it asked you to input your current apple id or create a new one. When I go to click either option, it says server problem. It won't let me create any id. I clicked to skip this step and then it loaded up all the basic apps that come with the ipod touch. I went to settings to see if I could connect to wifi and it was grey. It wouldn't let me turn it on or off. I'm thinking that since wifi works on all of my other devices right now that this ipod is officially history.
