Can't detect app updates

I don't believe this is to do with the windows update as I ran that on Tuesday evening and my app updates stopped showing late on Friday evening (all UK time).

It's a widespread problem (not sure if it is affecting Apple users) and definitely affecting windows users (I have machines with 7, 8 and 8.1 and none show updates).

It's affecting mac users also. Unfortunately some people have posted a series of unrealistic proposals to try and rectify the problem, but I believe the issue is related to Apple (possible a server) and we just need to wait it out unitl Apple decide to fix the issue (not ideal for someone with no patience).
