How to recover files from Time Machine backup to a synology NAS?

I have an almost full 1TB drive which I have been using as a Time Machine backup.

Now I have a new MacBook pro which has a 512MB ssd so I can't restore all the data because the ssd is not big enough. I have a synology NAS with a 2TB drive set up.

I would like to move all my files to the NAS. I have spent a few hours googling how to do this over the last few weeks. I have tried to manually drag the files, but there are multiple copies of the same files and I'd hate to copy accross the wrong file or over right and lose data. How so I do this?

Thanks

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
