iPhone 5 won't charge

Hi,

My iPhone 5 won't charge anymore. Odd thing is when I plug in a known good apple cable (it works with my other iPhone and came with it) the red empty battery light comes on but the phone won't power on. It ran out of juice a while ago. When I unplug the cable the phone shows the red empty battery and a lightning cable with a charge/lightning bolt symbol.

Before it got this bad the phone would die at around 20-30% charged. Could it be the battery or the lightning port? Or gremlins??

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

Hello, imatt24.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

Here are a couple troubleshooting articles I would recommend going through with the charging issue issue you are experiencing. If a case is installed, I would also make sure to test charging the device with the protective case removed. After all steps have been exhausted, see step 6 of the second article below.
