DesktopsAlso when you go to print it asks for username and password - is that your mac U/N and P/W or the PC the printer is connected to???
That's the PC asking.
OS X Mavericks: Connect to a printer shared by a Windows computer
Windows printers are much easier to find if you have Bonjour for Windows installed on the Windows machine:

Dec 15, 2013 1:51 AM in response to BeamQueen82by LowLuster,Sorry to say but you probably never will get it to work. A printer connected directly to a Windows PC is not a Networked printer. It is a Shared printer that may be visible on the LAN but it is not really networked.
Now that we have that out of the way. It has been my experience that No Mac computer running any version of OS X can connect to and print to a printer connected directly to a Windows PC. Sure you can find the Shared priinter on the LAN and install the drivers for it on the Mac. And even maybe print a test page to it from the Mac (Doubtful). But when it comes to actually printing to the printer from the Mac nothing ever really come out of the printer.
Stop pulling your hair out over this and spend the $100 or so to buy a new printer that connects directly to your LAN by either Ethernet cable or Wifi.

Thank you so very much.
