I followed the steps in the above, after step 13 my iMac restarted and when I opened iTunes nearly all of my music from CD, movies, audiobooks, playlists etc were gone, the only thing remaining were the albums I have purchased - what do I do?

Unfortunately many people follow those directions when what they really meant to do was move thier library. Media's just media; the library is what ties it all together and tells iTunes where htings are located. It helps when asking for assistance here to tell us what exactly were you trying to acccomplish, otherwise there's just too many possibilities to cover in detail.
Perhaps this is what you meant to do:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
