My i pod classic -obsolete- is dead. No other solution than throw it away?

My i pod classic adquired in 2009 -refurbished on the same year after an accident and replaced it by garanty- suddenly is dead witout any reason. Best buy support says there is nothing to do since the hardware is not working. I resist just throw away such a nice and -expensive- gadget after only five years of use. Any other solution? I will appreciated any counsel or at least words for resignation 😉
