mini Ipad png/jpg issue

I bought my mini Ipad in April 2013. Up until October, all my pictures I took with the Ipad were in jpg format. Now they are in png format - I have installed IOS 7.0.4, is this what changed it? Is there anyway to change it back? I know I can convert png to jpg in MS Paint and other programs, but they picture on my desktop screen is so small it's hard to work with. like cropping, etc.

Try a reset: hold down the home button along with the power button until you see the Apple, then let go.

Thank you so much! This appears to have worked! You just saved me a lot of hassle and possibly money too, because I was thinking about buying a new digital camera (my old one broke). My children and grandchildren get here on Friday for the Holidays - so lots of picture taking on the horizon. Merry Christmas!
