My contract with Version is up and I want to switch to T-Mobile. My IPhone 4s is locked to the verison network. How can I get it unlocked so I can transfer to t-mobile?

I tried contacting Verison support and they said they only unlock if you are travelling internationally...not sure what that means though. If they do this, would I be able to use it on another network like T-mobile?
What Verizon is referring to is unlocking the GSM side of the iPhone so you can use the iPhone with a GSM carrier's SIM card in another country when traveling internationally.
I don't believe the unlocking of the GSM side of the iPhone applies to using the iPhone with a GSM carrier in the U.S. such as with T-Mobile or AT&T.
Had you purchased the iPhone carrier locked and activated with AT&T initially when the iPhone was new, AT&T would unlock the iPhone now for use with T-Mobile.
The information you received from Verizon is correct. And I can confirm what Allan said as well, that unlocking the phone from Verizon will only enable you to use the GSM side internationally. You will not be able to use the device with a domestic carrier in the US.
