Copy Music?

There's about 10,000 entries here about copying iTunes music but if someone could just give me a simple answer to the following, I would really really appreciate it:

Can I copy some iTunes music files from my Mac to my wife's iPhone 5? If so, specifically how? (My Mac iTunes is under my Apple ID, my wife's iPhone is under her Apple ID).

Thank you very much,

Scott

Hi boulderskies@ck,

Welcome to the Support Communities!

Does your wife have her own user account and iTunes library on your Mac?

Are you wanting to copy a few songs into her iTunes library, or share your entire iTunes library with her?

The two articles below offer different scenarios:

iTunes: How to share music between different user accounts on a single computer

You can use Home Sharing to stream music to iOS devices that share your home network, or transfer music from an iTunes library on one computer to a different iTunes library on another computer.

I hope this information helps ....

Hi Judy. Thanks for your response.

I've described this a couple of times but basically here's what I want to do:

* I have a Mac with only my stuff on it and my ID.

* My wife has an iPhone 5 with only her stuff on it and her ID.

* I want to copy a Playlist from my Mac's Library to her phone.

* Thats ALL I want to do (no photos, etc). And I dont want to risk changing/merging/syncing, etc anything else.

It seems this is a rare requirement..

Thanks for taking a look at it...

Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202 - You can manage your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers as long as you have set the device to "Manually manage music." - E.g., adding music from a second computer to an i-device. Additional information about switching sync mode - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4435531 and manually adding in iTunes 11 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4597408

Okay, I finally got up the courage to simply plug my wife's iPhone 5 into my Mac and see what happened. The Mac treated the phone as my new phone, called it by my name and did a full back up from iphone to Mac (I didnt want this, but I had no choice). There was some malarky about me not being authorized to back up things purchased at the iTunes store but I finally figured out I had to sign in as my wife. Once I did that, the backup continued.

I then configured the Songs (in upper tab) to do a Managed Backup and just copy one Playlist I had created on my Mac iTunes. At one point it told me it was going to delete music on the phone but at that point, I didnt care and went ahead.

Everything was successful: it didnt delete music on the iPhone but ADDED music from the new Playlist on my Mac.

I still dont understand the process entirely but I think the most confusing part is over. Now, I can just do Managed Backups from now on.

Hope this helps someone.
