Screen lighting on

Hi,guys, I am just wondering is it ok to keep lighting up on screen for 3-4 hours? One of my apps needs to have my ipad2's screen turning on to download movies, otherwise download work will be stopped. Thx

Or does anybody know what effects will be exerted on my device if I don't turn off my screen?

Any help would be appricated.
