I have version 5.0.1 of Pages on the latest version of Mavericks, as does the person I am working with.
I created a pages document and emailed it to her. She is unable to open. When she created one, I am unable to open it.
Any help would be appreciated!

Probably she has Pages '08 and can not open Pages 5 .pages files as you can not open Pages '08 .pages files.
Export to Word .docx or go back to using Pages '09 which can save as Pages '08.

We both have the same version of pages. I also tried this with a third person and same issue. None of us can open each others files.
'the same" being what? We can't see. Tell us what version that is:
Menu > Pages > About Pages
I am not surprised that multiple people can not open each others files. There are now so many mutually incompatible versions of Pages floating around that is almost inevitable.
In all probability if you have lately 'upgraded' Pages you have multiple versions on your Mac.
The older Pages will be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Pages 5 will be in your Applications folder.
It is easy to open the wrong one and once you convert files in Pages 5, nothing else can read them.

As stated in the initial question, we all have version 5.0.1.
Does she also have Pages '08?
Sounds like she opened Pages '08, couldn't open the Pages 5 file, then created a Pages '08 file which you then couldn't open in Pages 5.
