My iMac powers down to the sign-in screen after 35 minutes if I'm streaming music to my wireless speakers or just leaving it idle even though my power settings are set to 3 hrs so I have to sign-in and restart iTunes

It's now powing down if you are at the sign in screen, it's just going to sleep. One thing to try is simply turn sleep to Never and then put your display to sleep.
i did that but it still happens. i tried different users but the same thing happens
Restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It may be possible one or more is corrupt.
A Mac will power down if its internal sensors detect the heat of certain components approaching dangerous levels. Are the fans running loud? If so, find your original disks that shipped with the computer and use the one that has Apple Hardware Test (AHT) to test the computer. The test will identify a bad fan or a bad fan sensor.
It does not happen when I'm actively using the computer
It's only when I'm away from the iMac in another room listening to music or if I leave the computer on. Screen saver is off and display and hard drive are on never go to sleep on power settings
