Dec 16, 2013 9:38 AM in response to Sandra-Lee Cby Neville Hillyer,You can use install disks to change/reset passwords. Look for Utilities at the top of the screen on the page after you select your language. Quit after changing the password and do not proceed with a normal install.

Dec 16, 2013 11:23 AM in response to Neville Hillyerby Sandra-Lee C,Hi thank you, I did the above but it did not work. Where it says select a user to reset password the only option there was system admin root. So I could not reset the password.
I have viewed various forums and nothing seems to work. Should I take my macbookpro to a mac shop.
Cannot believe how difficult this is.

Dec 16, 2013 11:58 AM in response to Sandra-Lee Cby Neville Hillyer,I am not sure what has gone wrong with your Mac but you could select root and change its password. Then restart and login with name root and the new password. You can then use Accounts preferences to see what accounts exist and change the passwords. If no accounts exist then create an admin account. Log out of root and log into the new admin account.
