Windows XP Boot Camp drivers on Snow Leopard DVD

Swapped out HD's from 2 different Mac's because of water being get into one of the Mac's so I swapped out the hard drive and put it in a different model Mac. My question is, where are the boot camp drivers located on the Snow Leopard DVD? I've tried downloading different version of Boot Camp from here, but none of them seem to work for me. I encounter errors and when trying to install. I'm beginning to think the hard drive is bad even though I did not notice it being wet. It boots up fine and everything else. Any ideas?

From the 10.6 Boot Camp manual regarding the Windows driver and trouble shooting problems. Does the computer you have allow the installation of Win XP?

http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1519/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_ 10.6.pdf

Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows After installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software for

Windows using your Mac OS X installation disc.

The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort, built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and the function keys on an Apple keyboard.

The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and the Apple Boot Camp system tray item.

To install the Boot Camp drivers:

  1. 1 Eject the Windows installation disc.
  2. 2 Insert the Mac OS X disc.

If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorer and double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.

  3. 3 Follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows

Logo testing, click Continue Anyway. Windows that appear only briefly during the installation don’t require your input.

If nothing appears to be happening, there may be a hidden window that you must respond to. Check the taskbar and look behind open windows.

Important: Do not click the Cancel button in any of the installer dialogs.

  1. 4 After your computer restarts, follow the instructions in the Found New Hardware

Wizard to update your software drivers (Windows XP only).

  2. 5 Follow the instructions for any other wizards that appear.
  3. 6 Check for updated Boot Camp drivers by using Apple Software Update or going to www.apple.com/support/bootcamp.
  4. If You Have Problems Installing the Device Drivers

If it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren’t successfully installed, try repairing them.

    To repair Boot Camp drivers:

  5. 1 Start up your computer in Windows.
  6. 2 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
  7. 3 If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorer and double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
  8. 4 Click Repair and follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows

    Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.

If you need to reinstall specific drivers, you can install one driver at a time. For example, if your built-in iSight camera isn’t working, you can reinstall just the iSight driver.

Individual drivers are in the Drivers folder on the Mac OS X installation disc.

    To reinstall a specific driver:

  9. 1 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
  10. 2 Quit AutoRun if it opens.
  11. 3 Using Windows Explorer, locate the driver that you want to reinstall.
  12. 4 Open the driver to start the installation.

2011 MacBookPros come in two flavors. Those made between Feb and Oct 2011 (early) came with OS X 10.6.6 and can have Windows XP installed through Boot Camp. Those made after Oct 2011 (late) came with Mac OS X 10.7.2 and have no support for Windows XP.

To view and use the drivers as outlined in the instructions you need to be booted into Windows. You will find them on the 10.6.6 install disk as illustrated below.

If by chance you have OS X 10.7.x installed there is a very convoluted way to get XP installed which has been mentioned on this community before which I can't specifically recall. Try a search if needed or perhaps Google it.

Whatever you decide be certain you have a compete backup in case Mr. Murphy is hanging around. 🙂

I may not have been clear but you must boot into Windows after Boot Camp installation in order to see the stuff I pictured.

My 2010 MBP 15" came with two DVDs. Mac OS X Install DVD and Applications Install DVD. The Install DVD has the Boot Camp Assistant App in a hidden file, but the stuff shown previously with Windows stays invisible.

This is all I can see on the Mac side of the Installation DVD.

I wasn't clear either.. And just so you know, I ONLY have Windows XP installed on the Mac and doesn't dual boot into the Mac OS. When I am logged into Windows XP and try to navigate to the Snow Leopard DVD, it shows blank. That's where Transmac came into play so I could see the DVD. Would I need Snow Leopard installed first so it can install the Boot Camp Drivers?

Its not a big deal anymore. I used a Mid 2009 Macbook pro and works fine. I can only think that the other Mac is not compatible. That was the only reason why I needed the boot camp drivers because it was a bigger screen.
