I am considering buying a HP 25bw monitor for my wife's 2006 Mac Pro lap top. Is this monitor compatible with the Mac? Apple support claims they would have to install drivers in the Mac in order for the monitor to work properly.

I am considering purchasing an HP 25bw LED Monitor for my wife. I called Apple support and a tech told me they would have to install drivers on the Mac for a one time fee of $49.00 inorder for the monitor to work properly or else it would burn up after a week of use.

Is anyone aware of this? I thought you could download drivers from the Apple web site for free. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and if HP isn't compatible then a good compatible monitor recommendation would again be appreciated.

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
