Has anyone here put two Airport's together to "extend wireless" more than once?

Since Airport's can only extend the main base station, I'm curious if anyone here has hacked around the issue by "joining" the primary base station with an Airport, and then wiring up another Airport to the "joined" airport and configuring it as a regular roaming access point which could be extended again.

I don't need to do this personally, but it seems like it should work.
