[HELP] Search for emails inside Mail app not working - But spotlight search for mails Work!

Hi guys I have a brand new Macbook Pro 15'' Late 2013 (haswell) and Mail search stopped working two days ago, its not an indexing problem because if I search it on spotlight it finds the email.

I've tried everything that is described here already.

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11798?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

I deleted the ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData Envelope Indexes, rebuilt the Mailbox, removed the account and added again. I've tried the mdutil -s command on terminal just in case but index is enabled.

I dont know what else to try. Is someone experiencing the same problems as me? Was someone able to fix it? I spent almost this 2 days searching on threads of this forum, but none fixed my problem so decided to create a new thread.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks - I removed the com.apple.mail folder, restarted and now its indexing correctly again.. odd. Started to look through all the plist files to see if there was an easy way to move preferences back.. but after a bit realized it was just easier to re-setup preferences as I found things that I wanted to change back again within Mail..

uh oh.. that didn't exactly work afterall.. my preferences are not saving between sessions (e.g. font size, window panes, etc.).. and worse than that, all my local folders are not showing up on my local mailbox list.. will have to do a diff with the new com.apple.mail and the old to see what was changed.. and what was not changed ⚠

I have used and tested the search function on several IMAP (running on Mac OS X servers and others) and Exchange accounts, with all emails fully downloaded on the local machines, on a brand new iMac and a brand new MacBook Pro both now running 10.9.1. If the number of messages in any Inbox is beyond a small number, the search function works for only 5-10 seconds (i.e., shows, more like flashes, the results for a short time) and then the results disappear. I have led the development of another major app, I am running my own Mac OS X servers (six servers on 10.9.1 and 10.8.5), been using Macs for 20 years (not a novice!!) and never encountered this strange behavior before. I HAVE THOROUGHLY TESTED THIS ISSUE. SEARCH FUNCTION STILL DOES NOT WORK UNLESS YOU HAVE A SMALL NUMBER OF MESSAGES IN THE INBOX.

IT IS EMBARRASING THAT APPLE CANNOT GET ITS ACT TOGETHER ON MAIL APP WHICH IS THE FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT APP THAT ANY PROFESSIONAL USER CLICKS ON ONCE THE MAC IS UP AND RUNNING. THIS USED TO BE A GREAT APP AND WITH EACH OS UPDATE THEY BREAK SOMETHING IN THE APP. THERE ARE STILL PROBLEMS WITH MAIL RULES AND OTHER ISSUES WHICH ARE COVERED ELSEWHERE. I WOULD RATHER PAY FOR THE OS AND HAVE MY MAIL APP FULLY FUNCTIONAL. IT JUST SEEMS THAT APPLE'S RESOURCES ARE MORE FOCUSED ON LOOK AND FEEL (MARKETING STUFF) THAN SOLID FUNCTIONALITY. IT MAY VERY WELL BE THAT APPLE MARKETING DEPARTMENT HAS TAKEN OVER THE REGRESSION TESTING AND MISSING LOTS OF CONFIGURATIONS IN THEIR TESTING. IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANYONE AT THE HELM IS PAYING ATTENTION TO MAKING SURE THAT ALL BASIC FUNCTIONS ARE FULLY TESTED AND WORKING BEFORE EACH RELEASE. VERY FRUSTRATING AFTER INVESTING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON MACS FOR OUR ORGANIZATIONS!!!!!

MXSNS: SPOT ON !!

I have spent 4 chat sessions and one visit to a Dutch Genius bar: no solution and they do not seem to know what they are doing. The problem started for me when I updated to 10.9.1 on 2 Macs, I refrained from doing it on others. These are business computers and all I get is quirky, Brave New World (Aldous Huxley) kind of happy sounding messages and standard solutions that are not solutions plus the Genius bar person said we do not have this problem etc etc. I filed a bug report, nothing thus far. I do not have 80k mails (if you do I think perhaps the first step is to hire an email consultant User uploaded file). But 4-5000 organized of course and most accounts are imap. Also never ever had a spotlight problem this is the second time in 4 months that with an update something major goes wrong last time were the thousands of Apple TVs that were bricked including mine after firmware update.

Nothing works, the only thing I did not do is a total fresh reinstall, I can not as I am travelling etc but also refuse to do this until Apple folks convince me they know what they are talking about. Apple where are you and what happened to your QA and QC department ? Selling iphones 5Cs in China ?

Good afternoon. Once again, please help with setting up e-mail search. I reinstalled the system a few times (3 times). Immediately after installing search e-mail works. After installing several programs (pages, numbers, keynote) and 50 documents search does not work. I have limited the amount of e-mail database. Did not help.

Please help me! Maybe there is a limit in the index files on the number of objects?
