I have a late 2011 mode MacBook Pro that is running OSX Lion and I'm editing sound effects for a project for uni and the sound is really quiet even with the sound all the way up. I don't know if its the sound card or is it something else? I don't wanna have to take it to a repairshop and have to pay like $200 for it. I need a response ASAP!

I need to know, if you are using virtual output devices, when you are using the MacBook speakers.
Also check if the volume contol on the sound page is up (like iTunes, has a volume control on the page that works independantly from the keys)
If it's not that you may try a pram reset:
Power off, power back on holding the following keys:
OPTION COMMAND P R
Continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 2 times then release, reboot.
