Just installed the 10.9.1 update this morning. In general things are running a little better but my bluetooth mouse and keyboard keep losing connection. This is happening several times a minute- very annoying.
My machine is a 2011 MacBook Pro. It is still responding the the built in keyboard and trackpad so I am assuming this is a bluetooth issue.

I have checked the environment. We dont seem to have any USB 3 or new sources of interference near the machine. I am going to take it to the library tomorrow and see if that helps.
The thing I probably didnt make clear is that everything was working just fine right up until the new update to OSX was installed. 10.9.1 certainly seems to have helped make Mail a viable app again but the bluetooth failures started as soon as I restarted.
I have since "unpaired" the devices, restarted the machine and paired up again. The keyboard seems more stable but the mouse is very flaky.
Experience the flaky bluetooth straight away after 10.9.1 update as well:
- was using apple wireless keyboard and trackpad
- updated Mac OS X to 10.9.1
- trackpad works after reboot, keyboard doesn't
- tried to pair the keyboard several times with no luck (it would be detected a few times but then pairing would not work; took out the batteries, restarted bluetooth on Mac etc.)
So far cannot use Apple Wireless Keyboard at all.
System specs:
- MacBook Pro 15 (late 2013)
Edit:
- after numerous tries to reconnect the keyboard I got to the stage where typing numbers and pressing enter was requested during pairin
- keyboard works again now (hope that lasts at least untill next system update)
Steps I did:
- took MacBook Pro away from everything together with Apple Wireless Keyboard
- turned of Bluetooth on Mac
- rebooted
- turned on/off bluetooth again
- went to System -> Keyboard -> Set Up Bluetooth Keyboard
- switched off keyboard, switched on (long press)
- keyboard was detected, pressed continue -> numbers to type appeared (typed them and pairing succeded)
The pairing would start many times and then stoped saying that keyboard is not detected. Eventually everything worked out. Have patience, perhaps it will work in your case too.
First time pairing Apple Wireless Keyboard on Mac OS X 10.9.0 was a breathe.
Yup I'm experiencing this after 10.9.1 also. Never had this issue with 10.9.0.
Just had same experience as you and your solution worked. After 10.9.1 upgrade wireless trackpad was fine but wireless keyboard was not. Bluetooth couldn't find keyboard until after numerous attempts, but even then could not connect. Disconnected the MacBook Pro, took it and keyboard to a distant room, followed your sequence, and it eventually connected -- though the Bluetooth setup still kept saying it was not connected, did not display the keyboard and did not give any keys to be typed for pairing. All's well that ends well. Thanks for the good counsel.

Thanks z3ro1 this worked after several attempts. I have also tried this with recent success:
* From System Preferences -> Bluetooth, remove existing pairings of keyboard and trackpad
* Remove batteries from devices
* Turn Bluetooth off
* Turn Bluetooth on
* Insert batteries into devices, pressing on button afterwards
* Follow pairing procedure from System Preferences -> Bluetooth

I have the same problem on my mac mini running 10.9.1. The keyboard and mouse keeping losing connnection and reconnecting over and over again. When the keyboard disconnects the mouse stops responding. I'm not sure to troubleshoot given I don't have any wired devices.
SO - we get update 10.9.2 in the hope that there may be a fix in there...there isn't so guess what - it's still happening!
In my years of ownership - I have never had to restart my iMac on a daily basis to get all the devices to work. Come on Apple - sort the problem out. Just do a Google search yourselves and you will see how much this is affecting users!

I'm in the same boat - I've been waiting for something to get better, but my Bluetooth devices on multiple computers all are having disconnection issues with bluetooth. THIS ONLY HAPPENED AFTER UPGRADE TO MAVERICKS. I've been told I can't downgrade because of something special Mavericks does.
Please tell me there is some kind of a fix.
In addition to what I did above, I found this to also work:
1. Open Bluetooth from System Preferences
2. Remove affected device (e.g., trackpad, keyboard, mouse)
3. On device, press power button and keep it pressed down until Bluetooth identifies it
4. Pair the device, but press power button and keep it pressed down until it is connected
I tried deleting both the bluetooth mouse and keyboard. However, it didn't take, the problem returned. The only solution that worked for me was to buy a USB mouse and keyboard. The problem is now gone, but I'm out $100 for the wired hardware.
Like you, I'm having loads of trouble with bluetooth. First the mouse loses connection; then the keyboard. I've changed batteries. I've removed and added the devices. It just keeps happening.
I've been experiencing this problem as well since Nov 2013 after upgrading to Mavericks. It's very intermittent. Sometimes it works fine for weeks. Other times it drops several times in the same day. Apple has been unable to resolve this. The latest fix was to replace my wireless card and cable. But, that didn't work either. Amazingly enough when I used my home laptop for a few days I had no issues at all (running an older OS). But, reconnected to my work laptop and in less than a day I lost connectivity. Only solution is to reboot.
