Current Pace vs. Average Pace

As far as I can tell, the only pace feedback you can access during your run is "current" pace, not "average" pace. Only after you complete your run, are you given your average pace.

Does anyone know if you can access your average pace during your run? I find "average pace" is much more beneficial than "current pace" during long runs when you are trying to maintain a certain pace, or complete a marathon at a given pace.

There is no way that "Average Pace" could be more important than "Current Pace" reasons being that as a competitive runner, if you are running a marathon or runs of similar length, you should know what your pace should be at certain spots of the run and your mind would be working in such fashion that at certain markers you press the button and it tells you how much time has passed, so you would know what your pace is from studying the course and setting your pace ahead of time. Knowing your current pace is similar, yet not even close, to measuring your HeartRate, reasons being is that you can pace yourself at the moment comparing it to previous feedback, which I believe is more important. If you are running marathons, you should set up points where you press the center button to get that feedback, and be able to pace yourself from the "current" information. Just my thoughts, but everyone does things differently, to each their own.

I would like to be able to have access to both "current" and "average" pace. To be honest, when I'm running marathons, I don't like to do much thinking, and knowing if I am above or below my desired average pace via a simple push of a button would alleviate me from doing all those calculations, course studying, heart rate monitoring, etc. I'm sure competitive runners take a different view. A side note, the Timex Bodylink GPS unit I use allows you access to average and current pace.

What an amazingly arrogant response! Someone asks how they can do something because that's what they need, and you think you can tell them what they do and don't know about what they want.

Amazing!

You're obviously not a competitive runner, because everyone knows that it's much easier to calculate your status on a run from your average pace, since you already know the course and where you should be on it.

I'd also prefer getting the average pace, as do all the runners I've spoken to about this question.
