Wake from sleep resizes external monitor windows to macbook size?

Hi,

My issue is exactly as the subject title. I have a brand new MBP 13 Retina (Dec 2013), replacing a 3-year old MBP 15.

Both with Mavericks, both run the same peripheral monitors connected through Thunderbolt-to-DVI.

The MBP 13 wakes from sleep and remaps the windows that exist on external monitor: they are all placed in the upper-left corner

of the external monitor, with the bottom boundary iresized for the MBP screen geometry.

This happens momentarily and often very clearly: one or more of the windows "show up" for a split second on the external monitor.

Then I have to resize everything manually.

Try a PRAM reset.

Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Thanks, but resetting PRAM did not work. I tried twice just now.

The system very clearly wakes up in "built-in display-only" mode, maps all windows to it, then wakes up the external monitor and relocates the windows there...using the built-in display geometry.

I have the same issue. It's not a great solution but I found that changing the arrangement so that the laptop screen is above the larger external monitor seems to let windows on the external monitor keep their size after waking from sleep.
