Fusion Drive utilities and setup

Hi,

Previously with a new Mac, I often would run Drive Genius, perform a Drive Scan, reinstall the operating system, install applications, and then transfer any documents and other user data.

Since Drive Genius 3 won't do a drive scan on a fusion drive, what utilities are you using on them?

Is there any issues with TM backups on the fusion drive?

Any issues I should be aware of?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), fusion drive

If you have a factory installed Fusion Drive, then you should have a special version of Disk Utility to use with it.

Unless these utilities have been specifically upgraded to support Fusion Drives, I would not use them without first contacting the developers to inquire if they can be used with a Fusion Drive. Meanwhile, it's safe to stick with Disk Utility.

I can't tell you much more than this. I do not use a Fusion Drive myself, so I have not had any opportunity to test third-party utilities on one.

According to the DW website:

11/05/2012 - DiskWarrior 4 version 4.4 Compatible with Fusion Drive

DiskWarrior 4 version 4.4 was released last year and is required to repair the directory of a Fusion Drive. You must be started from OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, or later, to rebuild the directory of a Fusion Drive. If you haven't already done so, you can use the free updater for existing owners of DiskWarrior 4 versions 4.0-4.3.
