In the past several months it has become more and more difficult to get my laptop to make proper contact with the power adapters I have, making it increasingly hard to recharge. Is this fixable?
Maybe. The pins in the power adapter connection to the MBP are spring loaded. Check if all of them slide up and down freely.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.
It is possible that you should perform a SMC reset:
