Faulty audio-matching. Help?

I record myself playing to the drums, while playing along to an MP3 from iTunes. When I import the drum video and the SAME MP3 I used from iTunes into iMovie, either the audio speeds up or the picture slows down, because the tempo gets VERY mis-matched (and gets worse) during the song. Does anyone know what is happening and how to fix it?

Eric,

That kind of "drift" is not uncommon. Though it's better now than with old analogue equipment.

That's why pros use equipment that is locked to the same time code. Essentially using the same clock.

Kind of like the saying "if you were two watches you'll never be sure exactly what time it is".

How are you recording your drum playing? Do you know the audio specs of the audio you're recoding? Bit rate, etc.?

Probably your easiest solution is cut the audio up into pieces and nudge it around to get synch back. Are you recording video too? Is the audio staying in synch with it?

It can be a bit tedious, but there's nothing you can really tweek on your equipment.

You coulld also play around with GarageBand. You can speed up or slow down audio with it without effecting pitch. That might be a solution. Though it is a bit tedious as well.

Lots of trial and error. But that how the pros do it too!

Another solution is to record your re-record your MP3 and drums using the same device but that's going to take additional equipment. Namely a mutitrack recorder or camera that can handle more than one audio track.
