New version of Pages won't open docs

In the new version of Pages, when I try to open documents *created in the newest Pages version* I get a message window that says, "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document. You can download the latest version of Pages from the Mac App Store." I created the doc with the new version.

I have the newest version of Pages available running in OSX Maverick on an iMac. How do I work with my current and new docs? Ack! I never had this problem with Pages '09.
