Where are you seeing duplicate photos?  You mean in the camera roll and in my photo stream on your phone?

I went through my iPhoto photos and deleted all of the photos that I didn't want on my macbook & as soon as I plugged my phone in iphoto asked me if i wanted to re-import the photos I just deleted. Then i look over at iphoto and i made 3 events: 2011, 2012, 2013.  Some places it says I have 600 photos then other times it says I have a total of 1200 photos. I had the my photo stream unchecked/ turned off on my macbook and my phone. So I dont know where to start deleting from.

iPhoto sees your phone as a digital camera and offers to import any photos it finds in your camera roll, and only if you click the Import button in iPhoto.  If you don't want to import photos, don't connect the phone to iPhoto.  If you want to transfer photos from iPhoto to your phone, do that from the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and sync.  If iPhoto is automaticallly opening when you connect your phone, go to iPhoto>Preferences>General and choose "No application" from the drop-down list next to "Connecting camera opens:".

Or are you talking about photo stream photos?

    Photo Stream Photos...

To my understanding if I delete photos of my MacBook, it should delete them off of my phone. But they're not deleting. I plug my phone in and it asks me if i want to re-import the photos I just deleted.

They should be delete from your phone.  Are you sure you are deleting them from iCloud in iPhoto and not from your events?

I just imported all my photos to iPhoto. Then delted them all off my phone then made folders for them and now thats how it looks on my phone. It looks right to me.. I'm also turning of photo sharing on macbook and iphone to prevent anything else. From now on I will upload to the camera roll to iPhone if i wanna keep the photo.
