Q: sim card

hey got a iphone 5s from a TKS shop in germany. now they said i can swap out the sim card with any other carrier and the phone should still work.which i thought woud work great for when i get home. since i still have a verizon sim card and account that is still active. the problem i ran into is that when i did so the phone keeps saying no service up in the top left hand corner of the screen. so i hooked up the phone to my computer connected the laptop the internet and checked for up dates let the phone update and still nothing

You purchased a GSM phone and are trying to connect it to a CDMA network. Also, unless things have changed, Verizon does not support BYOD or bring your own device. They only allow phones on their network that they have sold.

Any other carrier is a valid point, as long as the radio type is compatible.

At&t and T-mobile are your GSM options in North America.

Check with Apple to see if your phone has a CDMA radio in it.
