i cannot figure out how to put my iphone in dfu mode with a broken home button on ios 7

Why would you need to put the device into DFU mode? Most everything can be fixed with a restore.
i baught the phone off a buddy and he didnt restore it so when i try to restore it it asks for the passcode and i dont know it
Then you use this support document to restore it. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212 Then, if the device is on iOS 7, you will need his Apple ID and password for Activation Lock. If he cannot remember that, there is nothing you can do to change that. DFU mode will not correct that. It will be locked and cannot be activated, period.
