Just switched to Mac from Windows. Microsoft office is not installed on my Mac. How can I open office files on mac (.doc, .docx, powerpoint, and excell files). Is there any alternative file readers available on apple store? I have OS x 10.9.

I don't think so. I know you can download it directly from MicroSoft.
I use Pages and Numbers to open those files

So if I do some changes in these files, will it work in windows?

i used both office 11 and pages. you would need to purchase them. if not use free-open-source office.

I don't think so.
Only if you export them in the correct format.
If you just save them they will be in the Apple format which will not work on the PC.
