My Macbook Pro retina has Red and green lines running from top to bottom in the center of the screen

Well this happened recently. At first there was one green line running down the length of the screen. Now the issue has progressed to about 8cm worth of lines in the middle of the screen. This is not a software issue but a hardware issue definitely. I happen to have a slight bruise on the left side of my lid but that happened a long time ago.

It is a display, display connector or GPU issue. If you want to know what the problem is, take a screenshot of your display by pressing Command, Shift and 3 keys, and open the screenshot created in Desktop. If the lines appear, it is a GPU issue.

In the case of the MacBook Pro with Retina display, a display issue is cheaper to repair than a GPU issue, because in this last case the whole logic board would have to be replaced and it is expensive if your Mac is not in warranty. If it is in warranty, all repairs are free of charge.

If the lines don't present when connected to an external display then your problem is, more than likely, your screen. The 'bump' on the screen may or may not be a factor. As mende1 suggests, you should take your machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them diagnose the problem. If it is a screen problem, it will be much less expensive to repair than if it were a GPU.

Good luck,

Hi,

I have a similar issue, its not as severe as 'Navidh's screen. I have one red line running down on the left side of the screen, between File and Edit. I tried the screen shot method, and it doesnt show any line running down on the image. The line keeps surfacing every few seconds.

This has just happened today, when i turned on my Macbook Pro with RD.
